Retrospective study of photodynamic therapy combined with intravesical instillation of pirarubicin in the treatment of high-risk nonmuscular invasive bladder cancer

To explore the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of high-risk non muscle invasive bladder cancer. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 50 high-risk NMIBC patients at Shanghai First People's Hospital from January 2024 to December 2024. All patients underwent transurethral bladder tumor resection and were pathologically diagnosed with bladder malignancy. The Hematoporphyrin was irradiated into the bladder and retained for 120 minutes. At the second and fifth months after surgery, the same treatment plan was applied. Every 3 months, cystoscopy will be reviewed and random biopsies. The main observation indicators are RFS. All patients completed photodynamic therapy. The median follow-up time was 9 months. No patient had bladder cancer progression and metastasis. The RFS is 86%. 5 patients (10%) experienced discomfort symptoms. No skin photosensitivity reactions or other serious complications occurred. For high-risk NMIBC patients, photodynamic therapy with intravesical instillation of photosensitizers is safe and effective.
