Verrucous epidermal nevus treated with ALA-PDT: Two case reports
The treatment methods for verrucous epidermal nevi (VEN), including topical and oral medications, liquid nitrogen cryotherapy or surgery, each possess inherent limitations. PDT has gradually been applied in the treatment of VEN in recent years due to its simplicity, precision and safety, yet there remains a scarcity of adequate clinical reports. Case one received four times of ALA-PDT in 3-week interval, and we conducted both superficial scab cleaning and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy before each treatment. Case two received twice ALA-PDT in 3-week interval, which combined with 1927nm fractional thulium fiber laser and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy before each treatment. Compared with pre-treatment, it is characterized by flattening of the lesions and fading of the color of the treated area after therapies. ALA-PDT combined with liquid nitrogen freezing or fractional laser therapy is an effective treatment strategy for treating VEN, but hypopigmentation occurred in one of our cases.
