Laser-assisted photodynamic therapy for oral verrucous leukoplakia and chronic hyperplastic candidosis: a case report

To report a case of laser-asstisted photodynamic therapy for the treatment of oral verrucous leukoplakia and chronic hyperplastic candidosis. Oral examination revealed large white plaques on the bilateral cheeks and transitional sulci, which were elevated above the mucosal surface. Histopathological examination showed that the left cheek was verrucous leukoplakia, and the right transitional sulcus was squamous epithelial hyperpapillary hyperplasia. PAS staining showed Candida hyphae infiltrating the epithelium. The final diagnosis was oral verrucous leukoplakia and chronic hyperplastic candidiasis. Finally, we used medication to control fungal infection and eliminated lesions through laser-asstisted photodynamic therapy. Patient's oral lesions achieved good therapeutic effects through laser-assisted photodynamic therapy. Laser-assisted photodynamic therapy is an effective method for treating oral verrucous leukoplakia and chronic hyperplastic candidosis.
