Broadband adaptive illumination with programmable freeform optics
Phase-only spatial light modulators allow real-time shaping of an incoming wavefront. The required phase patterns to achieve a certain prescribed irradiance distribution are usually calculated using a wave optical model, limiting broadband applications. As a solution, one can implement the wavefront transformation of refractive, freeform optics, as so-called programmable freeform optics, but significant chromatic aberration remains for nonparaxial target distributions. This work introduces a method to significantly reduce this chromatic aberration, enabling broadband beam shaping with programmable freeform optics.
