Chlorine/chlorine dioxide-based process for decontamination of different pesticides from drinking water resources
The removal of pesticides from drinking water sources is an important research topic. The current study was to comprehensively investigate chlorine (Cl 2 )/chlorine dioxide (ClO 2 )-based AOPs for oxidation of five pesticides. The factors affecting the degradation rate of different five pesticides were investigated. The kinetic study for degradation of two organophosphorous pesticides (OPPs) and three phenylurea herbicides was carried out. It was found that OPPs degradation by Cl 2 is preceded faster in alkaline media, while phenylurea degradation is favourable at pH 7. The data obtained reveals the faster degradation of herbicides than OPPs using different oxidation process. The results reveal that combined UV/ClO 2 system is an efficient and feasible alternative for pesticides degradation due to synergistic effect between UV and ClO 2 . The F U/oxidant values for the removal of chlorotoluron, maloran, patoran, bromophos and profenofos were proved the potency of both ClO 2 oxidation and UV/ClO 2 system. The data obtained indicated that there is a synergistic improvement for advanced oxidation process (AOPs) efficiency removal of the studied pesticides.
