Synergistic <scp>UV</scp> ‐Blocking and Bioelectronic Performance in <scp>PVDF</scp> Polymer Nanocomposites Reinforced With <scp>2D</scp> Borocarbonitride

ABSTRACT Borocarbonitrides (BCN) nanosheets are promising 2D materials that enhance the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical properties of polymers. This work summarizes the preparation of BCN nanosheets and their poly (vinylidene difluoride) (PVDF) nanocomposites using the solvent casting method, emphasizing their impact on the physical and chemical properties of PVDF. Various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques were employed to analyze structural, morphological, elemental composition, optical characteristics, surface energy, and electrical properties. X‐ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of α‐ and β‐phases of PVDF; an increase in the β‐phase with an increase in BCN content was observed. The nanocomposites exhibited absorption across the entire UV region, with λ max at 300 nm. Tauc's plot confirmed an indirect semiconductor behavior of BCN@PVDF nanocomposites, with a bandgap of 3.24 and 2.70 eV (for 0.0 and 2 wt%). Dielectric relaxation and AC electrical properties (20 Hz–10 MHz) were analyzed using the Cole–Cole plot and electrical modulus, confirming nanocomposite homogeneity and enhanced dielectric behavior. A BCN@PVDF nanocomposite modified Ag/AgCl electrode was fabricated for the acquisition of real‐time ECG signals using Arduino and an ad 8232 sensor, demonstrating superior performance with 2% BCN over conventional Ag/AgCl electrodes, ensuring high signal quality with minimal noise and excellent sensitivity of 0.89 for 2% BCN@PVDF. This study highlights the tunable performance of 2D nanosheets in polymer nanocomposites, paving the way for multifunctional materials in advanced electrical and biomedical applications.
