A 28-GHz Monostatic OFDM-based ISAC System on RFSoC with Real-time Processing

This research presents the design and implementation of an Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) system with real-time processing utilizing Cyclic Prefix Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (CP-OFDM) modulation on a Zynq UltraScale+ Radio Frequency System-on-Chip (RFSoC) platform. It is the first monostatic-radar-based OFDM ISAC system implemented on an FPGA, utilizing the same OFDM waveform for communication and radar purposes. In-door measurements with hardware implementation on Programmable Logic (PL) are conducted to validate the functionality and determine the performance of the developed ISAC system, which achieves a 7.23 times of execution time boost in comparison to detection using Processing System (PS). This research demonstrates the feasibility of implementing a functional real-time OFDM ISAC system purely on hardware.
