The Structural Relationship Between Grit, Exercise Commitment and Health Promoting Behavior among Elderly Participants in Leisure Sports

This study aimed to investigate the structural relationship between grit, exercise commitment and health promoting behavior among elderly participating in leisure sports. To accomplish the purpose of this study, 224 surveys collected from senior leisure and welfare facilities, sports centers in Seoul and Jeonbuk Province were analyzed. The dataset was analyzed with SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 18.0, through which frequency analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were performed, followed by confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The results of this study are presented as follows. First, grit had a positive effect on exercise commitment. Second, exercise commitment had a positive effect on health promoting behavior. Third, grit had a positive effect on health promoting behavior. Fourth, the relationship between grit and health promoting behavior was mediated by exercise commitment.
