Emu Oil‐Based Nanocarriers: A Versatile and Biocompatible Platform for Targeted Drug Delivery and Regenerative Medicine
Abstract This review explores the potential of emu oil as a functional component in nanocarrier systems, emphasizing its role in enhancing therapeutic efficacy, biocompatibility, and synergistic activity in drug delivery and regenerative medicine. A comprehensive literature and patent search using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Google Patents was conducted to examine the historical use, chemical composition, and emerging applications of emu oil in nanotechnology. Emu oil‐based nanocarriers show remarkable promise in overcoming limitations of conventional drug delivery systems, such as poor solubility, limited permeability, and lack of site specificity. These nanostructured systems significantly improve pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters, including bioavailability, sustained release, permeability, and enzymatic stability. Emu oil unique composition, rich in unsaturated fatty acids, enhances skin penetration and exhibits anti‐inflammatory properties, making it suitable for pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations. Overall, emu oil emerges as a versatile, biocompatible, and multifunctional carrier that can advance innovations in targeted delivery and regenerative medicine.
