An update on standing fracture repair and return to racing in Thoroughbred racehorses
Standing fracture repair is an effective and now widely accepted method for repair of simple non-displaced proximal phalanx and medial and lateral metacarpal/metatarsal condylar fractures. This technique is easily performed by experienced surgeons and mitigates the significant risks associated with general anesthesia and recovery. An understanding of the limitations of this procedure and appropriate case selection remains of utmost importance.
