Thermal management of biped robot using compressed air with vortex tube: A coupled electric-magnetic-thermal-mechanical modeling
With the fast development of artificial intelligence and manufacturing technology, biped robot plays an essential role in diversified industrial scenarios. However, when biped robot is under large load operation, its joint motor suffers from a high temperature induced failure of robot motor ability. Moreover, biped robot is strict with self-weight in order to guarantee its dynamic capability. The current work presents a light load thermal management of biped robot using compressed air with vortex tube. A coupled electric-magnetic-thermal-mechanical model is developed to analyze the effectiveness of biped robot thermal management using compressed air with vortex tube. As air flow cooling with single loop channel is used instead of natural cooling, the maximum temperature of joint motor in biped robot is decreased from 86.93 °C to 61.83 °C by 28.87 % at a rotation speed of 4000 rpm. Meanwhile, its corresponding thermal stress is also reduced from 44.52 MPa to 30.02 MPa by 32.57 %. In addition, when the biomimetic channel is applied to replace single loop channel for air flow cooling of joint motor in biped robot, its maximum temperature is further reduced to 59.63 °C by 3.56 %, and the corresponding thermal stress is dramatically decreased to 22.23 MPa by 25.95 %.
