The effects of injection temperature and roll surface temperature on the properties of magnesium alloy ribbons produced using the single-roll rapid solidification method
We have been using the single-roll rapid solidification method to produce anode materials for magnesium rechargeable batteries. In the process, we have found that differences in the manufacturing conditions significantly impact the surface properties, mechanical properties, and electrochemical activity of the ribbons. In this study, we evaluated the characteristics of the ribbons when the manufacturing conditions of the molten metal injection temperature and roll surface temperature were changed, which had not been clarified until now. As a result, it was confirmed that the surface roughness of the ribbons improved when both the injection temperature and the roll surface temperature were increased. In addition, when the roll surface temperature increased, the number of internal defects in the ribbons was greatly reduced. In terms of mechanical properties, the ribbons produced by changing the roll surface temperature showed higher values than those produced by changing injection temperature. These results suggest that the tensile strength improved because the number of internal defects decreased. In the orientation evaluation, which is thought to affect the output characteristics of rechargeable batteries, it was found that changing the roll surface temperature reduced the cooling speed and that the conditions for producing ribbons with random orientation were clarified.
