The triple junction line orientation distribution in polycrystals
Two-dimensional triple line orientation distributions are calculated from three-dimensional experimental data for SrTiO 3 , Ni, MgO, and 8 % Y 2 O 3 -stabilized ZrO 2 . In the three cases where the triple line orientation distribution shows texture, it is consistent with the direction along which the most common grain boundary planes intersect, indicating that the triple line orientation distribution is determined by the grain boundary plane distribution. The majority of grain boundaries connected to two coherent twin boundaries in Ni had the symmetric ( 1 1 ¯ 4 ) orientation, a boundary thought to have very low mobility. Boundaries with the symmetric ( 2 ¯ 21 ) orientation, reported to be more mobile, were not detected.
