A simple technique to create emergence profile in immediate posterior implant placement using guided surgery and 3D printed customized healing abutment

With the assistance of guided surgery and the availability of free dental software programs, immediate implant placement in molar sites (both maxillary and mandibular) has become accessible and common. This technique aims to design and print a customized chairside healing abutment using additive manufacturing. Using the same software, which was used for surgical guide design, a digital diagnostic waxing of the failing tooth is utilized to create a customized healing abutment. By incorporating the screw channel for a temporary abutment in the appropriate location, the digital waxing can be directly converted into a 3D printable healing abutment. The customized healing abutment can be fabricated using microfilled composite resin in a digital light processing 3D printer. Subsequently, the temporary abutment is securely connected intra-orally using flowable composite resin to the printed healing abutment. This technique has proven to be straightforward, cost-effective, and easily adaptable in daily implant practice. This approach helps preserve gingival volume and ensures an optimal esthetic outcome for the final restoration, providing both functional and cosmetic benefits in implantology.
