Calculation of Shock Stand-Off Distance for a Sphere Using an Open-Source CFD Software Eilmer with New Chemical-Kinetic Parameters
The shock stand-off distance for a sphere is computed to evaluate the reliability of thermochemical models in computational fluid dynamics for hypersonic flow. The open-source flow solver Eilmer is employed and the thermochemical model proposed by Kim and Jo is examined. For the flow speed range from 2000 to 4000 km/s, the calculated shock stand-off distances are validated against experimental data. This validation is performed in comparison with the predicted values generated by the most popular two-temperature model of Park.
