OA2091. Partnering for safety: Making injury data accessible and actionable
Abstract Background The Norwegian Safety Forum is a national network encouraging injury prevention and safety promotion through collaboration between public authorities, private enterprises, and non-governmental organizations. For four decades, it has brought together stakeholders from different sectors, to reduce injuries through knowledge exchange, policy development, and dissemination of best practices. Public-private cooperation is vital in addressing complex and cross-sectoral safety challenges. Issue/Problem Despite broad collaboration, injury prevention remains underrepresented in public health agendas, which tend to prioritize lifestyle-related diseases and mental health. One barrier is the lack of accessible, visible injury data, limiting strategic planning and public engagement. Results To address this, we have developed IDEAS - Injury Data Easily Accessible, a user-friendly digital tool based on national datasets that enables Norwegian municipalities to incorporate relevant, localized injury data into their statutory public health plans. By making data practical and actionable, IDEAS fosters both awareness and initiative in local safety work. Lessons The digital tool clarifies the need for preventive measures and helps us to promote a wide range of initiatives co-developed with our members, including fall prevention for older adults, child safety programs, drowning prevention, safety walks, a mobile exhibition on safe housing and Safe Community programs. These efforts demonstrate how structured cooperation, and accessible information can enhance preparedness and resilience in facing both everyday and unexpected risks. When public institutions and private organizations collaborate, they can pool resources, align strategies, and implement more effective and sustainable safety measures. This partnership approach combined with knowledge and data ensures that safety policies are grounded in real-world needs and have broader reach and impact. Key messages • Public-private cooperation, and accessible data is vital in addressing complex and cross-sectoral safety challenges that require coordinated, multi-level responses. • Presenting data in a way that makes communities interested in taking active part in injury prevention and safety promotion work, is a way to prepare for safety and strengthen resilience.
