Who Leads the Leaders? The Dean's Role in Chair Development
The new dean for Heartland College is preparing for her first annual conversation and evaluation by the provost with some trepidation. Unfortunately, several external developments interrupted her progress over the last year, and increasing college fundraising remains an unmet priority. In addition, her college is not improving post‐pandemic faculty turnover, faculty productivity in terms of teaching and research lags other colleges, and the recent college culture survey returned mixed results. The provost, however, is focused on big‐picture items and has little advice on how to deal with the internal functioning of the college.
