IoT-Based Smart Energy Meter

Abstract: The shortcomings of traditional energy meters—lack of remote access, precise billing, and realtime monitoring—have been emphasized by the growing demand for effective energy management. IoT-based smart energy meters offer a contemporary solution through data storage, remote control, and ongoing monitoring of energy use, improving efficiency for utility companies and users alike. This project suggests developing and implementing a smart energy meter with Internet of Things (IoT) technology to measure electricity usage in real time and send the data to a cloud platform for monitoring and analysis. The setup features an LCD screen, sensors for current and voltage, along with a microprocessor (ESP8266/ESP32) for on-site monitoring. An application, whether mobile or web-based, can access energy usage data remotely via Internet of Things technologies. To improve energy management, extra functionalities include examining historical usage and alerts for unusual energy consumption. The primary goal of this project is to provide an affordable, dependable, and user-friendly platform that emphasizes the combination of cloud analytics, embedded systems, and Internet of Things connectivity. Possible uses for the technology could include integrating it with renewable energy sources, smart grid systems, and AI-powered energy management forecasts..
