Modeling of new tri-generation system based on triple Organic Rankine cycle, Kalina cycle and absorption chiller with heat recovery parameter

In this study, a combined biomass-based process was developed, and energy, exergy, economic, and environmental analyses were performed for the assessment of its performance. The proposed system utilizes the triple Organic Rankine Cycle which results in the generation of electricity at an impressive thermal recovery coefficient of 0.78 and integrates two thermally cycles of the Absorption Chiller and Kalina for the recovery of heat waste from biomass combustion. The environmental analysis introduced the new parameter of Coal Saving Potential, which shows the ability of the system to reduce carbon dioxide emissions intensity from multi-products to single-product mode and save 45.14% in coal consumption and 56.08% in fuel consumption. The findings indicate that the proposed system has electrical, exergy and energy efficiencies of 60.45%, 55.32% and 82.36%, and the cost per energy unit for the proposed system is equivalent to 0.071 $/kWh. The results of multi-objective optimization using NSGA-II identify three optimal points with distinct objectives including exergy efficiency of 56.79% and a cost per energy unit of 0.067 $/kWh for scenario 1, exergy efficiency of 56.50% and a footprint of 0.23 kg/kWh for scenario 2 and exergy efficiency of 56.65% and primary energy savings of 56.12% for scenario 3. • 4E analysis for Biomass Tri-generation system • A novel biomass system with exergy efficiency and footprint of 56.50% and 0.23 kg/kWh • Innovative thermal recovery method with a performance coefficient of 0.78 • Triple ORC, Kalina Cycle, and Absorption Chiller with cost unit of 0.067 $/kWh • Saving the coal consumption and fuel consumption by 45.14% and 56.08%
