Dating of the Brickwork of the Cultural Heritage Objects of the 12th—20th Centuries
Statement of the problem. The accuracy of determining the time of construction of a building depends on the age of building materials, which determines the durability and technology of restoration works. The purpose of this study is to assess the date of manufacture of masonry ceramic material of the surveyed objects, as well as the possibility of reuse of bricks in construction and repair works. Results. The methodology and results of the research of water accumulation processes in the samples of historical building ceramics and microstructure study are considered. The results obtained agree well with the known provisions of the theory of water transport in porous media and the results obtained by other researchers in determining the age of historical ceramics by the rehydroxylation method (RNX). The results of studies of the proposed methodology on specific historical objects are presented in order to obtain on its basis a reliable estimate of the age of building ceramic materials. Conclusions. On the basis of the conducted researches it is possible to draw a conclusion about the possibility of application of the RNH dating method as an alternative to more complicated and expensive methods: radiocarbon, thermoluminescent, argon-argon.
