Institutions, technology, and growth
The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2024 is awarded to Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson "for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity." We summarizes Daron Acemoglu's main views on the relationship between institutions, technology, and growth, analyzes the important role of inclusive institutions and skill-biased technology in economic growth, and examines the impact of artificial intelligence development on labor markets and macroeconomics. Finally, with the construction of inclusive institutions as the core, we propose some suggestions for improving scientific and technological innovation in the new era, focusing on increasing institutional supply, promoting institutional innovation, strengthening policy guidance, and adhering to coordinated development.
