Process for Developing Multimodal Text Reception and Creation Skills for High School Students in Literature and Language Arts
Social communication is currently shifting from a monomodal to a multimodal paradigm. This necessitates guiding learners to develop multimodal communication skills. To meet this requirement, education in general, and Literature and Language Arts education in particular, needs to foster and develop multimodal skills for students. In Vietnam, although the 2018 General Education Program has focused on teaching multimodal texts in Literature and Language Arts, the teaching and learning of this new text type still pose many difficulties for both teachers and students. This is because there have been no in-depth, comprehensive research studies on the methods of teaching and learning multimodal texts. Therefore, we have conducted a study on the "Process for developing multimodal text reception and creation skills for high school students in Literature and Language Arts." This process consists of the following basic steps: identifying text characteristics and reception and creation goals; guiding the recognition and analysis of expressive modes; organizing practice and application based on situations; creating a multimodal text product; and evaluating and self-adjusting. Through this process, students have the opportunity to form and develop multimodal communication skills. Simultaneously, it provides an active pedagogical method that contributes to the reform of Literature and Language Arts education in the modern educational context.
