Leadership Development, Career Progression and Operational Effectiveness

The study investigated the levels of leadership development, career progression, and operational effectiveness within the Philippine Army, focusing on personnel assigned across Region VI- Western Visayas in 2025. A total of 333 respondents from operational units in Iloilo, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, and Negros Occidental were selected through stratified random sampling to ensure balanced representation across sex, educational attainment, rank, years of service, and unit assignment. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire, which was developed from established literature and validated by experts in military training, statistics, and language. Reliability was confirmed using Cronbach’s Alpha. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS, employing Frequency Count, Percentage, Mean, Rank, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson’s Correlation at a 0.05 margin of error. Findings indicated that leadership development was rated as Highly Transformative (M = 4.67), career progression to a Very Great Extent (M = 4.65), and operational effectiveness as Very High (M = 4.69). Female personnel consistently gave higher ratings, though only leadership development showed a statistically significant difference by sex. No significant differences were found across other classifications. Strong correlations were observed among the three core variables, with career progression and operational effectiveness showing the highest relationship (r = 0.867). These results supported the conclusion that leadership development, career progression, and operational effectiveness were interdependent and essential to organizational performance. The study recommended targeted leadership programs, standardized promotion systems, and inclusive training strategies to sustain excellence in the Philippine Army.
