A Method for the Derivation of Functional Scenarios for the Systematic Development of Low-Speed Automated Driving Functions

Low-speed applications represent an attractive strategy for the introduction of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) due to the potential of simplified development along with high functional benefit. To further exploit this strategy, this paper presents a method for the systematic derivation of functional scenarios for low-speed applications. The goal of the method is to enable an efficient complexity estimation for these applications to assess their suitability for the introduction strategy. As a result, the developed method generates a catalog of functional scenarios for a certain low-speed use case based on analyzing the behavior and positions of the dynamic objects in the corresponding scenery. The exemplary application shows that the method has the potential to balance sufficient detail for complexity estimation with an efficient application. Thus, the method enables the further usage of the described introduction strategy. Due to its extensibility, a usage beyond low-speed applications is conceivable.
