Magnetic glass ceramics for cancer treatment: Network former and network modifier

Magnetic bioactive glass ceramics containing magnetic crystals are used for cancer treatment by the magnetic fluid hyperthermia (MFH) method. Glass-ceramics in the (20 + x) − (50 − x) FeO − 30CaO, X = 5,10,15 system were synthesized by the self-catalyzing sol method. The synthesis was carried out at 25°C and with a precursor to solvent ratio 1/5. The samples were heat treated at 700 and 880 . Maghemite, hematite, and wollastonite were the crystallized phases in the samples. By increasing the percentage of iron oxide in the composition of the base glass and increasing the heat treatment temperature, the relative intensity of maghemite phase peaks in XRD patterns increased and decreased, respectively. Maghemite characteristic absorption bands were seen in 471,445 and 559 wavenumbers. Magnetic investigations also showed that the maximum saturation magnetization was 1.5 . In the calorimetric test, the maximum temperature increase was 7 °C.
