Use of the Open Software I-SIMPA for Acoustic Simulation of Classrooms
The acoustic quality of classrooms plays a crucial role in speech intelligibility and student performance. In Brazil, the lack of specific regulations for classroom acoustics makes it difficult to ensure adequate sound conditions in educational environments. Moreover, limited experience with simulation software, largely due to the high cost of specialized tools, further restricts the adoption of effective solutions in academic and institutional projects. In response to these limitations, this study explores the use of I-SIMPA, a free acoustic simulation software, to model the sound conditions of a classroom currently under renovation. I-SIMPA simulates sound propagation across different configurations, making it possible to analyze the impact of various acoustic materials on the environment. To validate the software's accuracy, simulation results will be compared with in situ measurements. The study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using I-SIMPA for classroom acoustic design, assessing its potential for future research and its integration with experimental data. The adoption of open software can enable better acoustic designs, ultimately contributing to improved learning environments across Brazil.
