My Experience with Acoustics Lecturing in Postgraduate Courses - São Paulo
Graduated as a civil engineer in 1980, I started working with acoustics with great professionals like as: Conrado de Marco, Miguel Gonzales, Prof. Lauro Nepomuceno and his son José Augusto. I also knew several professors at USP, when I started my teaching activities. Thus, at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Sylvio Bistafa, with whom I took the discipline of Acoustics at FAU - USP, I taught for 18 years (2000 to 2018) the discipline "Noise Control" to the students of PECE*-POLI course (*Program of Continuing Education in Engineering). In the early years, this discipline was also taught by Prof. João Gualberto Baring (FAU - USP). Regarding FEI-SP (Faculty of Industrial Engineering), Eng. Carlos Moraes invited me to teach the discipline of Acoustics, for the postgraduate classes in "Ventilation and Air Conditioning" of the Mechanical Engineering course! He understood the need for these classes to acquire knowledge in acoustics, for good performance in their work area, since VAC systems emit noise and vibration, demanding attenuation solutions! I taught at FEI-SP for 14 years (2004 to 2018). This paper will address how little was known about teaching acoustics for graduated engineers (at the time), and what were the challenges then.
