SUBJECTIVE ASSESSMENT OF GYM NOISE

Gym activities produce a significant amount of noise, which is a frequent cause of complaints from building occupants in residential, hotel, and corporate buildings. The dynamic force of?falling weights on the floor is transmitted through the structure, reaching adjacent and remote receptors. Because of the nature of the excitation, transmission, and spectral content of sound, assessing the noise of gym activities is challenging. Different groups are researching different aspects of gym noise, from measurement procedures to acceptable criteria. This paper continues the previous study, Fitness Club Adjacent to a Quiet Corporate Office-Prototypes, presented at Internoise 2024.? An assessment was carried out with a group of individuals, aiming to evaluate their subjective reaction to certain types of noise with impulsive content, including dropping weights. A set of questions were applied to different types of sounds. The test uses a questionnaire with an eleven-point rating scale to assess how much the sounds of falling weights bother people. Questions of yes or no are also used to assess auditory perception. Different floors were utilized during the testing process, and the impact of sound levels on each signal was measured and compared to the questionnaire responses.

The dynamic force of?falling weights on the floor is transmitted through the structure, reaching adjacent and remote receptors. Different groups are researching different aspects of gym noise, from measurement procedures to acceptable criteria. This paper continues the previous study, Fitness Club Adjacent to a Quiet Corporate Office-Prototypes, presented at Internoise 2024.?
