IMPROVEMENT OF SOUND ABSORPTION OF FIBREGLASS STRUCTURES
Glass fiber-reinforced composite materials are widely used in structural applications due to their elastic and lightweight properties. While these materials can be designed to enhance sound insulation, the presence of impregnating resins limits their sound-absorbing capabilities. This study introduces an innovative acoustic system that maintains the sound-insulating properties of glass fiber composites while also incorporating sound absorption. The system utilizes a glass fiber mesh as a resistive screen, supported by a large-mesh glass fiber net. An extensive measurement campaign was conducted in a reverberation chamber, an anechoic chamber, and a standing wave tube to evaluate both sound insulation and absorption characteristics. This work provides an overview of the experimental results, demonstrating the potential of this novel system for advanced acoustic applications.
