Synthesis and physico-chemical studies of a novel cobalt hybrid material containing diammoniumcyclohexane as a template

• A novel cobalt-based hybrid material was successfully synthesized • Structrual, spectroscopic, and thermal properties were investigated, with comparison to the chloride isotypic compound • Dielectric analysis reveals a hopping process for electrical transport • UV-visible study suggests a Charge Transfer mechanism A new hybrid compound (C 6 H 10 (NH 3 ) 2 ) 2 [CoBr 4 ].Br 2 .H 2 O was synthesized by the slow evaporation method from cobalt bromide and diaminocyclohexane. Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that the newly prepared hybrid material crystallizes in the monoclinic system with space group P 2 1 /c . Its structure consists of isolated [CoBr4] 2- tetrahedra, diammoniumcyclohexane cations, water molecule and free bromide anions, all interconnected through classical and specific hydrogen bonds. To better understand the contribution of these interactions in structural cohesion, Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed. The vibrational properties were investigated using infrared and Raman spectroscopies, allowing the assignment of the vibrational modes. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed a phase transition at 327 K. The electrical properties were examined by impedance spectroscopy, dielectric study and modulus analysis. The M"/M"max indicates that the charge transport occurs via a proton-hopping mechanism. The UV–visible spectroscopy uncovered an intense absorption band, attributed to Charge Transfer mechanism.
