Role of foreign market knowledge and home country institutions in international entrepreneurship-performance relationship: a meta-analysis
Abstract We conduct a meta-analysis using 292 independent samples having 598,525 firm year observations to explore the moderating effect of foreign market knowledge (FMK) and home country institutions (HCI) on the equivocal empirical evidence on the relationship between international entrepreneurship (IE) and firm performance. The study finds that FMK positively influences how the degree, scope, and speed of international entrepreneurship affect firm performance. Specifically, FMK’s moderating effect on degree and speed is supported in both HOMA and MARA analyses, while its influence on scope is supported only in the MARA analysis. We find that the level of development of HCI positively moderates the relationship between the scope of international entrepreneurship and performance. Based on the results, we systematically identify future research opportunities and discuss implications for international entrepreneurship scholars.
