On Emerging British‐Latinx Art: The Case of Art Ubicua
ABSTRACT The historicisation of Latinx art has been consolidated as a field of study in the United States. While categorising art by specific communities or geographic regions can sometimes marginalise artists, such classifications have also opened up opportunities in spaces that might otherwise remain exclusive and inaccessible. This paper examines the applicability of the term ‘British Latinx Art’ to describe works produced by UK‐based and UK‐born artists of Latin American heritage, with particular focus on the case of Art Ubicua . In doing so, it seeks to shed light on the evolving history of Latin American art in the United Kingdom and contribute to ongoing efforts to challenge dominant epistemologies.
