Successful network strategies: four case studies

Purpose The paper aims to discuss four cases where network strategies played a central role. In addition, a fifth case is presented in the appendix. Four key factors that are typically found in networks are discussed (scalability, non-linear thinking, structural and/or relational balance and the chief executive officer). Networks typically also encourage the formation of communities, hence this positive effect. However, there are often challenges associated with this approach, discussed in each of the case studies. Design/methodology/approach This study explores four unique case studies, based on the author's own experiences in business and academia. Findings In general, it seems particularly critical that there be clear structural and relational issues regarding responsibilities and benefits. The role of the leader also seems to be essential. It is perhaps above all a matter of creating effective groups/communities in networks. Originality/value In this paper, author's own experiences and perspectives are taken into consideration with an extensive literature review. The value of the lead author's own experiences make this an original paper exploring four unique cases.
