Dynamic Response of Circular Elevated Water Tanks across Different Seismic Zones in India 9
ABSTRACT Circular elevated water tanks (EWTs) are vital for water supply systems but are highly susceptible to seismic forces due to their height and slender staging. This study evaluates the dynamic response of EWTs across India's seismic Zones II, III, IV, and V as per Indian Standard (IS) 1893 (Part 2): 2014, using finite element modeling with fluid‐structure interaction (FSI). The response spectrum method reveals significant variations in natural frequency, base shear, top displacement, and stress distribution across zones. Results highlight the importance of seismic zoning and staging configuration in design. The study provides recommendations to improve the structural resilience and safety of EWTs in earthquake‐prone regions.
