Modeling Mutual Inductance in Horizontal Inductors: A Simple Analytical Method Accounting for Multidirectional Near-Field Coupling

This article presents a simple gigahertz transverse electromagnetic cell measurement-based method to determine a multidirectional near-field magnetic coupling model of horizontal inductors, which are widely used in electromagnetic interference filters. Built on this model, a straightforward and accurate analytical method is developed to predict the mutual inductance between two inductors. Initial results, compared with experimental measurements and full-wave simulations, confirm that the analytical approach can reliably and efficiently predict mutual inductance, offering a simpler and less resource-intensive alternative to time-consuming full-wave simulations. Furthermore, the limitations of the proposed analytical method are discussed throughout the article.
