Expert opinion on hot topics in the field of IBD
• SC formulations of infliximab and vedolizumab demonstrated effectiveness, patients’ and physicians’ preferences, and cost savings. SC formulations of IV biologics could thus be considered whenever a patient prefers this route of administration. • When abdominal surgery is required in IBD, efforts should be made for reducing steroid exposure, assessing malnutrition, initiating nutritional support. The use of biologics is safe in the preoperative period. • Anti-IL23 therapies have demonstrated strong efficacy and satisfactory safety profile in moderate-to-severe CD and UC and will shortly become part of the daily IBD therapeutic arsenal.
