Presenting an improved battery-less static inter phase controller structure and its role in confronting wind generation uncertainty

The Inter-Phase Power Controller, so-called IPC, is a prominent FACTS device that addresses challenges in modern transmission systems and enables increased utilization of renewable energy sources. This paper suggests a novel alternative called battery-less IPC (BIPC) which eliminates the need for a battery in the system. BIPC offers simplified implementation while maintaining the functionalities of higher-cost alternatives. Simulation results demonstrate that BIPC exhibits superior performance and effectively addresses uncertainties associated with wind power integration. Probabilistic power flows have been conducted to assess the impact of BIPC when there is wind power in the base case. Probability distribution functions were derived and compared to find the effectiveness of the proposed structure. Accordingly, it improves voltage profile, mitigates overloads, and reduces power losses. BIPC facilitates the seamless integration of wind power, contributing to improved performance and efficiency in the power network. By employing optimized control strategies, BIPC regulates power flow and voltage levels, ensuring safe and efficient operation. The study emphasizes the benefits of BIPC in integrating wind power in the power network. The simplified implementation of BIPC offers similar functionalities at a more competitive price compared to higher-cost alternatives like SIPC. • A battery-less inter-phase controller (BIPC) is introduced for power flow control. • BIPC eliminates storage costs while maintaining IPC functional performance. • Probabilistic analysis shows BIPC improves wind integration and voltage stability. • BIPC reduces investment cost compared to SIPC with similar power regulation ability. • The proposed design enhances power system reliability under uncertainty conditions.
