Geoffrey Frederick Hewitt
Abstract Professor Geoffrey (Geoff) Hewitt made many significant contributions to engineering research, practice and education over a period of nearly sixty years. He worked on a variety of subjects in the general field of chemical engineering, but his main work for over fifty years was in multiphase fluid systems. Indeed, he has arguably done more than any other person in the UK or the world to advance the theory and practice of multiphase flows. His work was recognized by his election to the Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society, by his Foreign Membership of the US National Academy of Engineering, and by a number of prestigious international awards. Geoff was also president of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and earned international recognition for his work.
