Earlier onset of cannabis use linked to increased medical problems
Adolescence is marked by risk‐taking behaviors often related to substance use. Researchers have looked at the subset of adolescents who begin early use of substances, to focus on their subsequent use of health care resources. In particular, the researchers looked at the connection of cannabis and alcohol‐related disorders to subsequent health care use. Connections to anxiety and depression are also related to a higher risk of cannabis and alcohol problems.
