Alcohol ‘ads’ on social media prompt teens and young adults to binge drink

Despite all of the mandated caveats to “drink responsibly” in alcohol advertising, social media is apparently sending a different message to young people because it is not regulated. Abstract

Despite all of the mandated caveats to “drink responsibly” in alcohol advertising, social media is apparently sending a different message to young people because it is not regulated. The message is hitting those who are too young to drink legally. According to researchers, the dangers of social media to young people are mainly based on content — which, in the case of alcohol promotions, are encouraging young people not only to drink, but to binge drink.
