A Review Article on Nepheloturbidometry
Nepheloturbidometry is an analytical technique that measures the concentration of the suspended particles in a liquid by quantifying the amount of liquid scattered or absorbed. It encompasses both Nephelometry and Turbidimetry. Nephelometry which measures the scattered light, and Turbidimetry measures the transmitted light. In Nepheloturbidometry the intensity of this transmitted or absorbed light is directly related to the concentration and properties of the particles. This two techniques are related to the calorimetry. Because of this, it has become a routine tool in clinical laboratories, where it helps in measuring important biomarkers such as C-reactive protein, immunoglobulins, and complement proteins key indicators for inflammation and immune disorders. The technique is not limited to medical applications; it is also used in checking water purity, food quality, and even in pharmaceutical industries for product testing. Its strengths lie in being quick, easy to automate, and requiring little sample preparation. However, it does have its drawbacks, like being influenced by the colour or unevenness of a sample and needing careful calibration. Even with these limitations, Nepheloturbidometry remains a reliable and versatile method that bridges clinical diagnostics and industrial applications.
