Preservice Physical Education Teachers' Attitudes Toward the Use of Distance Education Environments and Online Self-Regulation: Descriptive Research

Objective: The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between physical education teacher candidates' attitudes towards the use of distance education environments and their perceptions of online self-regulation. Material and Methods: Two hundred nineteen physical education teacher candidates participated to the research. The Attitude Scale towards the Use of Distance Education Environments and the Online Self-Regulation Scale were used as data collection instruments. The collected data were transferred to the SPSS (ver.25.0) package program, and the descriptive statistical tests were first applied. Then, canonical correlation analysis was performed using Matlab 2023b Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox to examine the relationship between the sub-dimension scores obtained from the Attitude Scale towards the Use of Distance Education Environments and the Online Self-Regulation Scale sub-dimension scores. Results: As a result, the largest canonical correlation is the first canonical correlation, which shows the relationship between online self-regulation and distance education. According to both Wilks' Lambda statistic and Bartlett's chi-square test results, only the first canonical correlation is found to be significantly different from zero. The other canonical correlations are not significant. Conclusion: Accordingly, there is a nonnegligible but not very strong relationship between online self-regulation and distance education environments. It can be stated for this study that the training of preservice physical education teachers according to the technology acceptance model will contribute to adaptation to technology and the changing world, maximizing goals, control on behalf of themselves and their future students.
