75 Years of Practical and Scientific Papers on Irrigation, Drainage and Flood Protection

ABSTRACT This year, the journal Irrigation and Drainage , published in co‐operation with the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and John Wiley & Sons, celebrates the 75th anniversary. In fact, under the present name and co‐operation, it exists since 2001. It was preceded by the ICID Bulletin and ICID Journal that have been published by ICID. Since the first publication of the ICID Bulletin in 1952, the journal has steadily grown in authors, annual issues, number of papers, international readership and recognition. The focus of the journal has always been on human intervention to manage water for sustainable development and management. The published papers cover the application of technology and management to provide water and drain excess water, prevent salinisation and waterlogging, protect land from flooding and maximise water use by appropriate allocation, conservation, drainage and reuse. This paper presents an overview of the development of 75 years of publication of practical and scientific papers in the field of irrigation, drainage and flood protection.
