Decoupling Balancing Control With Scalable DC Reconfigurable Battery Modules
ABSTRACT This article proposes a decoupling state of charge (SOC) balancing control scheme for DC reconfigurable battery modules (RBMs) with a decoupling communication architecture. A system controller communicates with the upper computer, calculates the overall system status, specifies system parameters, and broadcasts system parameters to each module. Each module is equipped with a module controller, which is used to detect module status information based on system parameters issued by the system controller. The proposed decoupling SOC balancing algorithm with decoupling communication architecture reduces the computational and communication requirements of the controller, simplifies the communication structure, making it easy to expand and adapt to extended applications, and shows high flexibility. Experimental validation of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated through the utilization of two RBMs with 16 280‐Ah lithium‐ion cells. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves effective battery cell balancing. The robustness and scalability of the proposed method are demonstrated through simulation.
