Structure in the Frame, Emotion in the Structure: An Analysis of Formalist Aesthetics in Six Films through Bauhaus Design Principles
This paper systematically analyzes cinematic formal aesthetics using Bauhaus design principles. Despite the visual significance in films, traditional studies have emphasized narrative rather than visual structures. To address this gap, the current research applies key Bauhaus principles—form simplicity, color psychology, spatial organization, and compositional balance—to six notable films from diverse cultural contexts. Qualitative case analyses of these films demonstrate how Bauhaus design effectively shapes viewers' emotional and cognitive responses. This interdisciplinary approach offers new insights into cinematic aesthetics and suggests future directions in film theory and visual culture studies.
