Digital Nomads and the Circular Economy. Building Readiness for Green Entrepreneurship among Young Adults through Self-Organizing Learning Environments

As remote work and digital nomadism spreads among young adults, becoming a dream path for the future, new opportunities and threats are emerging for integrating the principles of sustainability, the fundamentals of a circular economy, with global mobility and work practices. The author of this paper examines how self-organizing learning environments (SOLEs) and digital learning tools can equip young adults - particularly digital nomads - with the skills they need to thrive and flourish in a circular economy. The study investigates how teachers from alternative school in Poland perceive their roles in fostering competencies aligned with sustainability, circular economy, and digital transformation. The research explores how educators understand and support the development of “green readiness” among young learners. Using the School in the Cloud initiative in Poland as a case study and referring to already published secondary data from previous studies, the author examines how cloud-based education platforms, AI-based education and social digital environments can develop and enhance circular economy competencies such as resource efficiency, waste minimization and sustainable entrepreneurship. Through primary bibliometric analysis, a case study of the alternative school initiative in Poland, interviews with teachers and trainers, and data on student choices, the study identifies key examples and digital learning strategies that prepare young professionals for location-independent, sustainability-oriented careers - ideal structures for digital nomads. The study’s findings highlight the role of ICT engagement in promoting responsible digital nomadism, in which remote workers contribute to local economies while minimizing their impact on the environment. The article also discusses recommendations for integrating circular economy principles into digital education to ensure that young adults - including future digital nomads - are prepared to lead sustainable development in a globally connected world.
