Towards Connected Simulations – Tracing the Evolutionary Path of Urban Simulations across Digital Twin Projects and Use Cases

The integration of simulations is a key demand for the development of Digital Urban Twins (DUT). On this background, this paper presents specific solutions for the simulation of urban environments – namely for urban climate and pedestrian mobility – that have been embedded in various DUT projects. Besides the modelling scope and application context of the solutions, the paper outlines the development path of these DUT simulations across different projects and use cases, all related to the urban development context of the city of Hamburg in Germany. The paper sheds light on the conceptual and technological evolution of DUT simulations, and explicates the necessity for knowledge and technology transfer across projects and institutions.
