Investigation on the effectiveness of class evaluation method using heart rate, respiration rate and stress values
In recent years, average academic achievement around the world has been declining, and class evaluation has become increasingly important for improving the quality of teaching. However, current class evaluation methods rely on student questionnaires, and it is difficult to accurately reflect the actual effectiveness of classes because individual feelings and differences in interpretation affect the results. Existing study has proposed a method to evaluate students’ concentration state by measuring their heart rate during class. However, heart rate alone is not sufficient to measure interest, as concentration in class alone does not capture the level of understanding or willingness to study independently. Therefore, in this study, we measured heart rate, respiration rate and stress values during class using a smartwatch and investigated the relationship between these vital data and class content and format. As a result of the verification experiment, we confirmed that stress values are closely.
