A New and Enhanced Intelligent Water Drop Placement in Cloud Computing
Due to the massive demand generated by internet-connected objects in cloud computing, efficient allocation has become essential. This involves placing virtual machines (VMs) on appropriate physical machines, which has a significant impact on resource utilization in data centers and helps maximize energy efficiency. This paper proposes an optimization approach inspired by the behavior of water drops on a surface to minimize the number of physical machines used by virtual machines (VMs) in cloud computing environments. An improved and modified version of the Intelligent Water Drop (IWD) algorithm is developed for dynamic provisioning of virtual network function placement (VNFP). To assess the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations are carried out using CloudSim and the results are compared with existing techniques, including the Least Loaded, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Memetic, and standard IWD algorithms. Performance analysis demonstrates the superiority of the proposed approach over these existing methods.
