Channel modeling for an underwater simultaneous wireless power and data transfer system with two coils

This article proposes a channel modeling methodology for simultaneous wireless power and data transfer (SWPDT) system in seawater environments, developing the channel gain function through analysis of LCC-LCC resonant circuits. By systematically characterizing the SWPDT channel properties, we derive optimized parametric design guidelines for underwater applications. Experimental validation using a prototype system demonstrates reliable concurrent power and data transfer, achieving 192.95 W output power with 89.2 % end-to-end efficiency while maintaining 10 kbps communication rate. • Coil equivalent impedances for power and data carrier in underwater environments are calculated. • A modeling methodology for underwater SWPDT channels is established based on the derived impedances. • Channel transmission characteristics of underwater SWPDT systems undergo comprehensive quantitative analysis. • A parametric design methodology for underwater SWPDT systems is proposed, with an experimental prototype constructed.
